Somewhere above the rooms, under the slates, something wakes when the light goes. It lives in the attic, or perhaps in the roof of an old barn. Nobody has ever seen it by day. These pieces are made in the same way as stained glass, only in three dimensions. Everything starts with stainless steel, cut into irregular fragments. Each piece of stainless steel is edged with molten tin and joined to the next by hand, leaving the traces of the gesture visible. Soldering is a slow, physical process. The result is never completely even, and I have chosen to leave these small irregularities visible. The result is a form that appears fragile, made of thin metal fragments framed by delicate lines of solder. Each element supports the next, and the whole structure stands on only a few points of contact. The sculpture grows irregularly, like a branch or a crystal, balancing fragility and strength. Two sizes are available. The small one is lower and more compact, holding one candle, while the larger one has wings extending from its body and holds three candles. Both sizes are also available with recycled glass fragments, in amber and dark brown tones. The glass is broken into different shapes, each piece taking its own form. Every fragment is held within the structure by the same soldered edge. The piece is a reflection on hope and the passage of time. It portrays a flower slowly dying, yet still giving off light, a symbol of resilience in the face of change. As the flower faces its own decline, the viewer is reminded of life’s fragility and the beauty that can exist even in moments of loss. Surrounded by organic forms, the piece creates both a physical and emotional experience. The work explores how light and beauty can persist even as things fade. It offers a reminder that there is still hope in fragile moments. This mirror is a hybrid piece, born from the fusion of two techniques that rarely meet. On one side, gilding, a traditional craft dating back to antiquity, rooted in history, precision, and handwork. On the other, 3D printing, a modern tool that allows total freedom of form and experimentation.
